Weekend Asian Street Food Market at Lucky Chinatown Mall

I was heading out from the gym, famish after 1 hour of Zumba, 1 hour of Spinning  and 1 hour leg strengthening exercises when my eyes twinkled and my tummy rumbled when I spotted this Weekend Asian Food Market happening at the open grounds of Lucky Chinatown Mall.

Who doesn't like Asian Street Food? I hurriedly checked out the vendor selections, about 15 of them more or less.

There are street food from the Philippines, from China, Taiwan, Singapore and Japan. I'm hoping this weekend activity will grow and will include street food from Vietnam, Korea, Thailand and Malaysia.

The space is a bit cramped. I guess they can improve the layout in the following weeks and provide more tables and chairs for those who want to sit down and enjoy their servings.

I always checked those with long queues, there must be something special why people are lining up on these stalls. I was convinced to line up too and ordered Okoy from tasty Xiamen (the food offered by the Chinese guy from above photo), steamed dumplings freshly cooked from FU DAO SHUI JIAO and some Singaporean Taho (bean curd) for dessert. But since I can't find a seat, I ordered everything to go and hurriedly went home.

Good thing, I was pleased with the street food I bought. I never tasted an Okoy that good, the dumplings can be compared to Dong Bei's and the Singaporean Taho tasted really good, not the usual taste offered by "mamang magtataho" that usually roam our streets in the morning and afternoon. Of course that one is cheaper and this Singapore version is x3.

Taking food shots is no longer my main concern, the tummy can no longer afford any second of delay, hehe!

Anyway, if you happen to be in the Divisoria area, this food trip is worth considering. Go check out this Weekend Asian Street Food Market at Lucky Chinatown Mall.

  1. Wow, am jealous and I'm drooling! Wish we had more of those here...the closest I can get is a ritual lunch of dim-sum in Chinatown or Vietnamese food every Thursday with the guys at work. Okoy is that thin, crispy, wafer looking thing, right? I think the last time I tasted it was in my junior year in college :)

    1. Sorry, haha! But cooking it is pretty easy, just mix the ingredients and fry it, hehe! But if you can find someone to cook for you that'll be better. :))

    2. Haha!! "Just mix the ingredients and fry it"... you make it sound like it's that simple! If you give me the recipe and quick instructions I may be tempted to take a crack at it. As far as "finding someone to cook for me"...good luck with that one, hehe! :))

    3. hahaha, I wish I can ask the Chinese guy's recipe and send it to you but I'm pretty sure it's trade secret! Oooh, that's too bad but you can always try, today could be your lucky day, hehe! ;)

    4. I bet it would be impossible to pry that recipe from his clutches...his livelihood depends on it! I could be lucky and still it would be hard to find someone who can really cook... everyone is so "high maintenance" over here, if you know what I mean, hehe :)

    5. Really? hehe! Well, maybe you just need to separate the two ... you can always hire someone to cook, haha!

    6. Yes, really, haha! That's a good point, I guess one can't have everything! It's not common to find cooks for hire here - the good ones are getting paid tons by the big establishments! Have a great weekend. Later. ;)
